Greek Hotel and Accommodation Phrases

These phrases cover the most common hotel moments in Greece: arriving, confirming a reservation, asking about your room and facilities, reporting a problem, and checking out. The page uses the everyday words you are likely to hear at reception, including common hotel loanwords like check-in, check-out, and Wi-Fi. Use the polite forms by default with staff; the statements for broken items are short and direct because that is how they are normally reported.

Arriving and checking in

You arrive at a hotel in Greece, confirm your booking, and ask about breakfast and Wi-Fi.

Reporting a room problem

Your shower is not working, so you report it to reception and ask for practical help.

    Sorry, the shower doesn't work.

A few things to know

Register

polite by default

Use polite Greek with hotel staff. 'Θα ήθελα' is the safest way to make a request, and 'μπορείτε' is the normal polite form for questions. Short neutral statements such as 'Το ντους δεν λειτουργεί.' are also fine when you are reporting a problem.

grammar

Reservation names with στο όνομα

In 'Καλησπέρα, έχω κράτηση στο όνομα [name].', the phrase 'στο όνομα' is the standard hotel way to say 'under the name'. The form 'στο' is the contracted shape of σε + το, and the surname normally follows directly after it.

usage

The everyday elevator word in Greece

In 'Πού είναι το ασανσέρ;', 'ασανσέρ' is the everyday word people use in Greece for an elevator. Staff will also understand 'ανελκυστήρας', but that sounds more formal and is less common in casual hotel speech.
