하늘은 맑고 바람은 부드러웠다. 민수는 학교 운동장에서 열리는 달리기 시합에 참가했다.
시합 전에 친구들이 모두 긴장했지만, 민수는 아주 편안했다. 그는 자신이 연습한 대로 달리기로 마음먹었다.
시합이 시작되고 모두 빠르게 달렸다. 민수도 힘차게 달렸는데, 갑자기 신발 끈이 풀려 넘어질 뻔했다. 다행히 그는 바로 일어났다. 하지만 순위는 많이 떨어졌다.

집에 돌아오는 길에 민수는 머릿속으로 달릴 때 느꼈던 바람과 소리를 떠올렸다. 그는 실패에도 불구하고 달리는 순간이 즐거웠다는 것을 깨달았다.

Notice the language
Use V-기로 하다 after a verb stem to say you have decided to do something. It is a very common pattern for intentions and personal decisions. You can also use V-기로 다짐하다 to mean you strongly resolve to do it. Example: "다음에는 신발 끈을 꼭 묶기로 했어요." This means "I decided to tie my shoelace tightly next time."
