내 이름은 수아예요. 우리 가족은 아파트에 살아요. 오늘은 아빠가 새 의자를 사고 싶다고 말했어요.

Notice the language
Use this pattern to compare two things. Put the first thing before 보다, then the second thing with 가/이, and add 더 before the adjective. It means the second thing is more than the first thing. You can reuse it in simple comparisons like "사과보다 바나나가 더 좋아요." The story uses this idea in "새 물건보다 가족과 함께하는 시간이 더 소중하다는 것을 알았어요." for a comparison between new things and family time.
