Шкаф с подарками давно стоял на чердаке у бабушки Ольги. В доме все забыли об этом большом сундуке.
Однажды младший сын бабушки, Никита, решил помочь маме навести порядок. Он поднялся на чердак и заметил пыльный сундук. Никита, полный любопытства, открыл его.
Внутри лежали разные вещи: старые игрушки, письма и красивая коробка. В коробке Никита нашел подарок — маленькую деревянную игрушку, сделанную его дедом.

Notice the language
Use решил / решила / решили + infinitive to say that someone decided to do something. It is very common in everyday Russian and in stories. Example: «Никита решил помочь маме» means “Nikita decided to help his mom.” You can reuse the pattern with many verbs: «она решила пойти», «мы решили посмотреть».
