Маша и Иван — два брата, которые любят приключения. Однажды они решили пойти в горы. Утро было холодное, но ясное, и братья были готовы к походу.

Notice the language
After решили, Russian usually uses an infinitive to show a decision or plan. This pattern is very common and reusable with many verbs. Example: "Они решили вернуться домой." You can also say: "Мы решили пойти в горы" or "Они решили остаться."
Они решили вернуться домой.
They decided to return home.
