Cada año, en un pequeño pueblo al norte, se celebra un festival muy especial: el festival de globos. Los habitantes esperan este día con mucha alegría porque el cielo se llena de colores vibrantes.
Tomás, un joven con mucha energía, quiere crear el globo más grande y llamativo para participar. Usa telas de diferentes colores y pasa horas armándolo con sus amigos.
El día del festival, muchas personas llegan para ver el espectáculo. Todos miran cómo los globos suben lentamente y llenan el cielo.

Use this pattern to say that one action happens instead of another. In the story, "En lugar de rendirse" shows that Tomás chooses not to give up. You can reuse it in sentences like "En lugar de ir a casa, esperamos un poco más."
