В холодный осенний вечер Лена решила посетить культурное мероприятие в местном театре. Там проходил вечер русской поэзии, и она хотела узнать больше о классических стихах и их авторах.

Notice the language
This pattern means "despite" or "in spite of." Use it to show a contrast between two facts. It is very reusable with nouns or noun phrases: despite the weather, despite the noise, despite the fatigue. Example: "Мы продолжили прогулку, несмотря на дождь." — "We continued the walk despite the rain."
