V-는 대신(에)
Use this pattern when one action or result happens in place of another, or when there is a trade-off: instead of A, B. Attach -는 대신(에) to a verb stem. It is useful for comparing choices and describing compromises. Example: "목적지에 빨리 도착하는 대신, 예상치 못한 신비로운 순간을 경험했다." This means the narrator did not arrive quickly; instead, they got an unexpected mysterious experience.
