Russian Hotel and Accommodation Phrases

Use this page when you arrive at a hotel in Russia and need to speak with reception. The phrases focus on the most common desk interactions: confirming a reservation, giving your passport, asking about breakfast or Wi‑Fi, reporting a room problem, and settling the bill when you leave. Russian hotel staff often use short, direct sentences, so the examples here match real front-desk language rather than textbook wording.

A few things to know

Register

polite by default

Use polite вы with hotel staff. The safest default is short, clear requests with words like можно and у меня, plus direct service phrases such as Ваш паспорт, пожалуйста. Informal ты is not appropriate unless the other person clearly switches first.

grammar

Reservation names after 'на имя'

In 'У меня бронь на имя [name].', the reservation name follows the fixed phrase 'на имя'. At reception, say the name exactly as it appears in the booking. Russian surnames may be inflected if they normally decline, but foreign names are often left unchanged.

grammar

Using 'нет' for missing things

'В номере нет горячей воды.' uses 'нет' plus the genitive case to show that something is absent. The missing thing changes form, so 'горячей воды' is not the same shape you would use in a simple affirmative sentence.

grammar

'Можно' + infinitive for short requests

Russian hotel requests often use 'можно' with an infinitive, as in 'Можно оставить багаж?' and 'Можно оплатить картой?'. This is a compact request pattern you can reuse for many simple permissions and services.
