Esta mañana, Lucas está emocionado porque juega un partido de fútbol con sus amigos.

Notice the language
Use this pattern to say that one action happens instead of another action. When the subject is the same, the verb usually stays in the infinitive. Example: "En lugar de jugar solo, Lucas corre con el balón." You can reuse it in sentences like "En lugar de estudiar, salgo a correr."
