Es ist früh am Morgen. Mika geht in den Supermarkt, um Brot und Milch zu kaufen.
Der Laden ist fast leer. Mika mag die Ruhe hier. Er geht langsam durch die Gänge und sieht viele bunte Produkte.
Plötzlich hört Mika ein leises Miauen. Er sucht und sieht eine kleine Katze unter einem Regal. Die Katze sieht müde aus und schaut Mika an.
Mika hat keine Tasche für die Katze. Er überlegt, was er machen kann. Er nimmt die Katze auf den Arm. Die Katze schnurrt leise.
Dann kommt eine ältere Frau an Mika vorbei. Sie sagt: „Oh, die Katze gehört meinem Sohn. Sie ist oft hier.“
Mika lächelt und gibt der Frau die Katze zurück. Die Frau bedankt sich und erzählt, dass die Katze manchmal wegläuft.
Mika kauft seine Sachen, wartet aber noch ein bisschen. Die Katze sitzt jetzt auf dem Tisch und spielt mit einer Packung Nudeln.
Beim Verlassen des Ladens denkt Mika: „So ein Morgen bringt manchmal kleine Überraschungen.“
Er freut sich, dass er der kleinen Katze helfen konnte, auch wenn es nur für eine kurze Zeit war.

Notice the language
Use this pattern to say why someone does something. The action after 'um' gives the purpose, and the verb at the end is in the infinitive with 'zu'. Example: 'Ich gehe in den Supermarkt, um Brot zu kaufen.' This is a very common way to explain purpose in German.
Ich gehe in den Supermarkt, um Brot zu kaufen.
I go to the supermarket to buy bread.
