This structure is used to concede one point and then present a contrast or stronger main point. It is common in careful written Dutch and helps you sound balanced rather than blunt. You can reuse it whenever you want to say 'although X is true, Y is more important.' Example: "De route was weliswaar zwaar, maar hij liep sneller dan verwacht." This means 'The route was heavy/arduous, but he ran faster than expected.' It first acknowledges difficulty, then highlights the result.
