Не желая + инфинитив
This detached gerundial construction gives the reason or background for the main action. It is common in written Russian and is useful when you want to say that someone did something without wanting to do the action named by the infinitive. Example: «Не желая сдаваться, Дмитрий пригласил нескольких друзей на дегустацию.» You can reuse this pattern with many verbs: «Не желая спорить, он промолчал.» The construction sounds more literary or formal than a simple two-clause sentence.
Не желая сдаваться, Дмитрий пригласил нескольких друзей на дегустацию.
Not wanting to give up, Dmitry invited several friends to a tasting session.
