C'est dimanche matin. Lucas reste à la maison parce qu'il fait froid dehors.
Il décide de cuisiner un gâteau. Il prend des œufs, du sucre, de la farine et du beurre. Il suit une recette simple.

Notice the language
Use ne ... pas around the verb to make a sentence negative. In the story, 'Le gâteau ne monte pas dans le four' means the cake does not rise in the oven. You can reuse this pattern in very simple sentences like 'Lucas ne mange pas.' or 'Je ne vois pas.'
