I always thought speaking was easy. But today, I could not say a single word.
It started this morning at the small market near my house. I wanted to ask the seller about the red apples, but my voice did not come out. I tried again, but only a small sound appeared. I felt scared and confused.
A kind woman saw me and smiled. She wrote on a small paper, “Do you need help?” I nodded and pointed to the apples. She picked them and gave them to me. "Good choice," she said.
At home, I tried to speak, but my throat was dry and my tongue felt heavy. I remembered my mother saying that sometimes people lose their voice when they are tired or sick. I was not sick, but maybe I had talked too much yesterday at school.
The whole day was quiet. I could hear birds and cars, but I could not join the world with words. It was strange and a little sad.
At dinner, my family looked worried. My father said we should visit the doctor if my voice did not return tomorrow.
Before going to bed, I wrote in my notebook: "Today was hard, but maybe silence is good for me. I listened more to the world."
I do not know when my voice will come back. Maybe tomorrow, or maybe later. But today, I learned that sometimes talking is not the only way to connect. Silence can teach us many things, too.
And for now, I will rest and wait quietly for my voice to return.
